While Napa County boasts some of best fine dining California has to offer, the whitetablecloth experience is only half of what makes Napa a culinary mecca. At its roots, Napa is an agricultural community that turns out some of best produce, meats, cheeses, and other fresh ingredients around. So in order to get the true taste of the region, here is the guide to our favorite local purveyors so you can assemble the perfect spread for a spring soiree in Napa.

Marshall’s Farm Honey:

Open Wednesday through Sunday, the old-school farm stand at Big Ranch Farms is reminiscent of a simpler time when the roadside produce stand was your one-stop shop for everything fresh, natural, and delicious. Big Ranch Farms maintains a licensed nursery as well, meaning the farm stand carries all the fresh fruits and vegetables you need for your meal, plus the centerpiece for the table.

Napa Valley Oil Manufacturing Company:

Since 1931, Napa Valley Olive Oil has been the go-to destination for locally grown and manufactured olive oil in St. Helena. Inside the quaint farmhouse location, you’ll find a traditional Italian market carrying vast selection of infused olive oils and balsamic vinegars, as well as other local and imported delicacies.

Oxbow Public Market:

With over 40,000 square feet of local vendors and artisan cafes, the Oxbow Public Market is a foodie’s paradise. Time permitting, you could easily spend an entire afternoon here hopping from one gourmet food stall to another while enjoying the scenic views of the Napa River. It was hard for us to narrow it down, but here are three of our favorite vendors within the Oxbow Public Market:

The Fatted Calf Charcuterie:
Using only pasture-raised meats, The Fatted Calf is a charcuterie and butcher shop on a mission to bring you the best possible artisan meat products. Whether you’re looking for pâtés, salumi, sausages, terrines, guanciale, or pancetta, you’re guaranteed find it here and you can bet it’s made in house.

Oxbow Cheese & Wine Merchant:
The sister store of Ferry Plaza Wine Merchant located in San Francisco’s historic Ferry Building, the Oxbow Cheese & Wine Merchant features a boutique assortment of wines from across the Napa Valley. The world-class wine offerings are perfectly complimented by a variety of artisanal cheeses, hand selected by their expert cheesemongers.

Fieldwork Brewing Company:
A recent addition to the Oxbow Public Market, Fieldwork Brewing is making waves in the craft beer world. Founded in Berkeley in 2015, Fieldwork taprooms are quickly popping up across the Bay Area and beyond. At the Napa location you can expect ten or more rotating beers on tap at all times, plus fresh beer for take-away in Crowler cans — the perfect mate for a GOVINO pint glass for your on-the-go craft beer consumption.
